My Goals For the Classroom:
My goal for the classroom involves setting an organized and accepting environment. This allows me to create valued discussions that students need. A classroom is a place where students should be asking questions, which is why I want the classroom to be a community. I will not have a traditional desk. I will work at a table where student-student and teacher-student conversations can occur. The students will have their normal desks to work alone at, but the classroom with a room, not my room. I want to include my own little library and have relaxing spots for students to truly relax and think.
I do not want the classroom to induce stress. I have always believed that true development and positive change emerge from environments of explorative discussion. This way students can ask the questions they want to be answered or explored. Not all development comes from the answer, sometimes there is no answer. This exploration creates development from the exploration itself, finding their own personal answers or theories.
I would be using a laptop for most of my work. I encourage this because it is less of a power symbol. Students should be able to walk up and talk without the judgment of asking questions. This is the reason I will have a table for students to work at and be actively discussing; there does not need to be powerful symbols but empathy and compassion.
Of course, this is all if space allows, but it is my goal to have an inviting, relaxing and comforting room that allows deep explorations of the mind and the curriculum.
