My name is Gabrielle Jeannine Poirier. I am eighteen years old and I have four siblings. I have a twin brother named Oliver. My name was supposed to be Olivia, but my mom’s friend had her kid first and named her Olivia. I have two older sisters’ names Sylvianne and Raigelyne.  Sylvianne is twenty-six and is living in Regina right now and she is also a chiropractor. Raigelyne is twenty-four and is living at home right now because she was born deaf and really can’t be living by herself. My oldest brother is twenty-two and he lives a mile down from our house and he works on the farm. My twin brother is living at home and is also working on the farm. My dad grew up around Bellegarde SK, which is only fifteen minutes away from Redvers. He has nine siblings, five girls and four boys. Most of them live around Redvers. One lives in Roblin, Mb and the other lives in Lampman Sk. One of his sisters is named Jeannine which is where I get my middle name from. Having that many siblings mean a lot of cousins. I have thirty-eight first cousins, which is a lot. On that side of the family all together I have around 100 and more cousins. My mom grew up in Dauphine, Mb. She only has one sibling and he is living in Calgary right now.

My favourite thing to do on the farm is to take care of my kittens. I have four baby kittens that had their mom taken from a coyote this past month, so I’ve been looking after them. They are named Oscar, Arla, Milo, and Murphy. I have one cat inside named Clover. My beliefs growing up is that it was rude to wear your hat at the table while we were eating. It was also rude to have our phones at the table while we were eating, this belief is still to this day. Another belief is my parents thought we couldn’t have our phones in our rooms till we were seventeen. My parents thought when I was in high school that we had to go to bed at nine every night. The last belief is if Raig was home we all had to help out with Raig, Raig would come first before anything.

Growing up I played numerous sports. the sports I played were volleyball, basketball, badminton, soccer, hockey, track and field, cross country, baseball, figure skating and I also danced. I also played volleyball in Bellegarde every Tuesday and Thursday night with adults in the winter. Right now, I will be playing lady’s hockey if it goes this season. This past year I coached basketball to junior girls by myself because my teacher thought I could do it. We went to conferences and won the finals. When I was playing this year, we went to conferences and won the final by ten points, we were moving on to regionals but that got cut short due to covid. I was really looking forward to going to regionals because in my last year of school I wanted to move on. I also was in some other groups that were called Leadership, Drama and Yearbook. I’ve been in leadership for six years now and this last couple of years I got voted to become president of the leadership committee. I’ve also been in a drama for about seven years now. This past year I actually got the drama award that was named the Mary Ellen Burgess award, which is the award for the best performance out of all the plays.

I’ve attended Redvers school since I’ve been in kindergarten. I also did playschool in Redvers as well. I learned a lot of different things in school that I found interesting. Like the normal ones that you’re not allowed to run in the halls and to be kind to each other and to include everyone. The ones I found interesting is doing Biology experiments and doing Chemistry experiments. Also, in Finance class they taught us how to deal with taxes and how to manage money and just about real life. We learnt these skills from my teachers. I’ve had around the same number of students in elementary and high school. I had around eighteen kids in my class in elementary and twenty-two kids in my class in High school. The girl named Olivia that I was talking about earlier has been my best friend since kindergarten. My other friend is named Jessica and we have been best friends for six years now. Growing up in Redvers school I always had a favourite teacher named Mrs. Garnier. I loved her because she always made her classes interesting and never boring. She always had good stories to tell and she loved everyone. I’ve always wanted to become a teacher because when I was younger, I went to my grandma and grandpa’s and I always used to pretend I was the teacher and make them do tests and homework. I would even make my parents do tests and I would mark them. I just always loved the idea of becoming and teacher.
