Social media platforms has really impacted my life in terms of my communication, basic skills and news update. Social media platforms like WhatsApp has tightened the bond I have with my family and friends due to audio and most importantly the video calls. The video call feature enables me to have a real time conversations with family and friends even though we are far away from each other also makes me feel their presence. The status feature on WhatsApp helps me a lot when I am bored and do not have anything to do because some people on my contact list post funny videos, memes and other interesting stories which I go and watch and it keeps me entertain.
Instagram and YouTube has been helpful regarding my Do It Yourself (DIY) tips and tricks particularly with fashion hacks, food recopies, make ups and hair care. Feeds on Instagram and YouTube has enabled me to get some of these things done by my myself. Notwithstanding the funny videos, I come across which makes me happy.
X formerly as Twitter has shaped me to be vocal on issues of the society as I mostly participate in debates and conversations concerning national development back home in Ghana. The use of X has given me numerous connections and I am still friends with those individuals. The news and trends on X have broadened my understanding and knowledge on issues across the globe which makes me knowledgeable in current affairs. This makes me willing to learn and know more about the world.
Despite these positive impacts social media has made in my life, it has also affected me in an adverse way. Over time, I became too addicted to Instagram and X which I could even ignore phone calls and messages when I am watching or listening to something because I do not want to be distracted. I got a lot of complaints from my closest friend and I worked on it by setting screen time, it was difficult in the beginning because social media had become part of me but with discipline, I was able to get the balance.
