EDTC300,  Learning Project

One Stitch at a time!

The online source that I used for my learning project this week was GoodKnitKisses youtube video. My first impression of this youtube video that it was very inviting and inticing. She begins the video with a jingle to attract your attention followed by a whole bunch of pictures of her knitting. I like that the video gave an outline of what the watcher was going to be learning throughout the video and mentioned that there was going to be various tips and tricks to accompany the video alongside.

While watching the video I noticed the various timestamps on the video, this made it easier to navigate if I wanted to jump ahead. Although for me that was not the case, slow and steady wins the race for me! My goal for this video was to learn how to do a single stitch crochet. Following alongside the video this wasn’t relativley that hard. I learned how to make a slip knot, hold my yarn and make a foundation chain. All things I didn’t know previously! The thing that I struggled with was holding my yarn, I felt like I was either getting a hand cramp from holding it too tight or having to readjust my grip constantly because it was too loose. I think this will just come with practice, or at least I am hoping so. What I found interesting with this source was she does guide you through every single step, so I didn’t feel lost at all. She also gives tips on retracing steps, making sure your stitch is tight, etc. I totally loved this video and would recommend. The only negative to this video for some people is that it is very slow moving. So if your a person that goes pretty fast through tasks I would speed up the video or try to find a shorter video. Overall though, amazing!

Here is a picture of my first single stitches!

    Hey Grace,

I am really enjoying following along with you on your crochet journey! Learning a new skill is always so challenging to navigate at the start but it looks like you are already doing great. I learn best from videos so I feel like that one would be a great one for me if I ever work up the courage to try and learn to crochet. I really liked that you included a picture of your first time trying single stitches. It will be awesome to see where you started and compare it to where you are at the end of the semester!
