I hate to admit it sometimes but technology consumes a lot of my time. Whether that be doing school work, watching a movie, or just scrolling mindlessly on social media apps, technology is apart of my everyday routine. The first thing I do when I wake up is go on my phone and check my social media apps, those mainly being snapchat and tiktok. These apps plus Netflix are what take up primarly all of my screen time. I like to blame my childhood and it is always being so loud and busy to the reason why there always has to be background sound on whenever I am doing anything. Although to be fair this is just a lousy excuse. I try to stay productive on technology by using organization apps like google calendar, reminder, notes, etc, using these apps helps remind me of deadlines and stay prioritized. I colour code all of my events, and assignments to know what classess and assignments I have to prioritize and how much time I need to allocate for all of my classess. In actuallity though, I am most organized and productive by using pen and paper, and setting visual reminders in everyday spaces throughout my home.
I do struggle with apps such as tiktok that distract me from my priorities because it is short term content that I can scroll until I find a video I like. The strategies I use to minimize this is self reflection. I consider myself someone that is self aware and knows when I am using too much technology, so my biggest strategy is to remind myself of what I need to prioritze. I often tell myself “enough grace” and then put my phone down.
I try to stay balanced on technology especially when it comes to school and play because I always try to prioritize school. I don’t think technology is a bad thing unless used in a bad way. All I try to do is get my stuff done first and then I can scroll on my phone. I hope my peers also have similar experiences because I do try my best but I know we live in the 21st century. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and opinions!
