Coding is NOT for me.

Hello everyone!

Im glad you’re back to listen to my blog this week. Todays blog I am going to be talking about coding. I would like to preface this blog with saying I have a love, hate relationship with coding. In one of my other classes I am taking this spring I also had a coding project that I had to do. This project involved a coding circuit board and coding program…without saying too much I am completely frustrated with the assignment, professor and materials. But I decided for this experiment I wouldn’t let my biases of coding affect the outcome of this assignment.

I chose to do one of the Hour of Code programs, more specifically the code with Anna and Elsa. I will never pass down the opportunity to play with princesses, ever lol!

As I began the coding I was actually enjoying myself as the program helps build your knowledge of the steps of coding by going through different levels. From level 1-7, I was having a blast.

<— This level though. I couldn’t figure out at the time why it wasn’t working. The reason being that I had to fit the repeats into each other so that the whole process could repeat itself. I will say that I was frustrated just a little bit when I couldn’t figure it out.

A couple things that I learnt from this project, was realizing what position the princess was in after each code, in order to put the correct angle for the next part of the code. I also learnt that the order of your code is very important. If one part of the code is out of order than it can affect the rest of the code.

Do I think coding is important? Yes because every aspect of technology is based on code. I think its important for students to realize technology isn’t easy and it takes hours and hours of coding to create something special. Does this mean that I will do coding in my spare time? Nope. But I am aware of how important it is and the importance of teaching it to students.

In the end I think I made a very pretty winter wonderland!
