Introducing my Learning Project

Hey everyone! I thought I would share with you what I am going to be doing for learning project. This was a pretty difficult decision for me because I am very indecisive person and I love to try new things, which as a combination made it difficult to choose. After a couple conversations with my loved ones I have chose to learn how to crochet. My interest for crocheting actually dates back to when I was a young child and bonding with my grandma over crocheting and quilting. My grandma has a great passion for designing and creating crafts. A distinct memory I have is her bringing her large tub of yarn for all of her grandchildren to pick a colour so that she could teach us how to create a tapestry with a loom. Recalling on these memories I thought that I would reteach myself how to crochet so that maybe one day I could teach my grandchildren, like she had taught us.

The plan for my learning plan is to take things pretty slow to begin. I need to learn some basic stitches like a single crochet stitch, a double crochet stitch, slip stitch, and a magic circle. Next, I will try and make a small project like a granny square. After making a granny square, I will try and accomplish making a granny square with a design. By the end of the project, my hope is to be able to create a golf sock set or a blanket.

The baseline for my knowledge on crocheting is very limited as I don’t remember what my grandma taught me when I was little. Although I do catch onto activities quite quickly so I don’t think I will have trouble starting. I have started by learning about what my hand-positioning should look like when holding the yarn. I have used the images on pinterest to learn this technique. I plan to use youtube videos, youtube shorts, tiktoks, blogs, websites, etc to help me along the way. I might even call my grandma for some advice!

I can’t wait to show you what I have been learning and show you my finished projects! Until next time…

    Hey Grace!

I love that you are choosing to Crochet! I actually took up this hobby around Covid time and I absolutely adore it. Your connection with your grandma makes this learning project so meaningful. I hope you enjoy it just as much as your grandma did. When it came to the magic circle, that is one stitch I suck at! I spent hours and hours and for some reason I always messed up. All I wanted to do was create a whale!! That being said, I hope I can learn how to master the magic circle by watching you learn the new skill of crocheting.

Best of luck in your learning project! I am looking forward to watching you learn how to crochet.

    Check in soon,
    Mackenzie
