Hey all, I’d first like thank everyone for the great collaboration and conversations this semester in EC&I 832. Below is a link to my summary of learning. I chose to go a little old school with the presentation and use some fancy new technology by implementing some Graphic Interchange Formatting aka GIFs to my presentation.
In reality, this semester was a bit eye opening for me in the sense that there is so much new technology quickly evolving, that it has made me examine my own uses of technology and how I envision my students using it in the future. What has been your biggest takeaway from the class? I will make it a goal to continue to improve on the methods I teach digital citizenship to my students and creating opportunities for them to critically look at media.
Hi Graeme,
I enjoyed how much you shared your summary of learning last night, but we didn’t get to see it to the end. I wanted to watch some of your conclusions and I appreciate your “And Now We Are Here” section of the presentation. I was looking at your steps and thinking how your steps in digital citizenship could really be a template for most people’s understanding starting with “develop an understanding of tech”, which I interpreted as ‘media literacy’. Essentially, you leading people through your journey in thinking about digital citizenship and media literacy would teach your students and colleagues how to grow in their digital citizenship and media literacy. I think you have hit upon an authentic way to teach these concepts. Thanks for sharing and your contribution to the class and my own learning.
Thanks for the comment Michael. It definitely is an evolving process teaching media literacy to students, especially with the constant changes and new developments in the tech world. Has been great hearing your insights as well this semester.
Hi Graeme, I enjoyed watching your video in class the other night and watching it fully just now. It is both visually entertaining and informative. I appreciate that you first sectioned concepts apart based on Postman (I keep coming back to his indicators of technological change since learning them last year). I enjoy the part at the end summarizing everyone’s “and now what?” moment. If we want to live in a digital world then we need to be fully informed about living IN that world – no regerts or ragrets 😉
