My Journey Towards Reconciliation

My Journey Towards Reconciliation

My aesthetic representation showcases a dream catcher with a medicine wheel embedded into it. This symbolizes the Indigenous people’s dream of creating healthy relationships and being connected to the environment and their traditional ways. The words connecting the feathers to the dreamcatcher are phrases that I have found inspired and educated me on my journey. These words connect the feathers to the dreamcatcher to show our role in ruining the Indigenous people’s connection to the land, and how it is our job to help fix it. We are part of the Indigenous people’s life and they are a part of ours.

I have also included the seven Ojibway teachings because I found it was a nice way to look at the lessons we learn in life and it goes with the dream of having their traditional way of life back. The words in red are negative outcomes of residential schools, while the purple words are positive changes we need to make, as well as the quote “Won’t you listen to me?” because the first step of reconciliation is listening and learning the truth.
