About Me

Hannah Klassen

Background

Hello! My name is Hannah Klassen, and I come from a white settler background with roots stemming from Scottish, Dutch, and German lineage. I was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan on Treaty 4 territory, the homeland of the Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota, Dakota, Lakota, and Metis peoples. As a person living on Treaty 4 territory, I promise to respect and show gratitude to the land that I live on, the plants and animals I live alongside, and all other living things I share this environment with.

  Values

These are some values I try to keep in mind throughout my everyday life! I’ve developed these values as a result of the experiences I had growing up, the life lessons I’ve inherited from my parents, and the experiences that continue to build who I am today.

  • Happiness
  • Family
  • Health
  • Movement
  • Connection through others
  • Connection through nature
  • To honor learning, creativity, and curiosity

Experiences as a Student

Growing up, I was able to participate in a variety of experiences that allowed learning in unique, and exciting opportunities and different environments. Below I’ve listed categories of different experiences I had as a student that impacted me as a student. These experiences included experiential learning outside of the classroom such as camping trips and travel experiences, as well as unique academic projects that gave space for creativity:

Saskatchewan Fish Hatchery, Buffalo Pound (November 2013)
  • Outdoor Education Trips (day trips, overnight camping, winter outdoor education, out-of-province camping)
  • Travel Experiences (EF tours, choir festivals, band and choir tours)
  • Hands-on Learning Projects (student films, comic books, art projects, experiments, credit Phys. Ed, group projects)

I wanted to include these highlights from my experiences as a student because these learning experiences are the foundation for my teaching identity. As a future teacher, I hope to facilitate similar learning experiences for my students because I understand how beneficial it is to teach beyond the classroom, and through more than only lectures and textbooks.
