TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

For my aesthetic representation for the journey to reconciliation essay I decided to do a drawing. Intergenerational trauma was something I wanted to include in my visual representation. I decided to have that as the main piece of my drawing because it was the first significant thing I learned on my journey to reconciliation. I was inspired by an online artist but added other details. I drew three females. Each belongs to a different generation. Each generation is holding each other up. This represents healing. Caring for and supporting one another. I then decided to surround the centerpiece of my drawing with each of the seven sacred teachings. When we went to our field placements in this course, I was first exposed to the seven sacred teachings. I came across them while looking for ways to integrate and honor different ways of knowing at my placement school. Following that, the words “Action” is written on the paper’s borders to represent healing and progress. I did this because, in order to heal and move forward, action to reconcile must be taken. I think the word action is impactful. To me, the word action is what needs to occur in my journey to reconciliation. Creating relationships and learning more about Indigenous culture is the action I want to continue doing. Lastly, I decided to add different colors of dots in various patterns. The different colors of the dots can symbolize many things. I made sure to add more yellow dots than the other colors because yellow symbolizes hope.
