Learning Arabic

This learning project forced me to really take a deep dive into who I am and my identity. I really struggled with finding a topic for this learning project and found myself taking long walks and drives to figure myself out. The question of what is it that I want to learn makes me think about what values I have and what is important to me. After much thinking, I decided that learning the Arabic language is something worthwhile for me to learn and master.

There are many reasons for me to learn this language but the biggest one is due to religious reasons. As a Muslim, what we believe to be the word of God is known as the “Quran“. The Quran is the Word of God written in Arabic revealed to prophet Mohammed who spoke Arabic. Hence, knowledge of Arabic is a requirement for one to fully gain a personal connection with the Quran. This is the main motivating factor for me and and I see the learning project being a great tool in reaching this goal.

About Holy Quran

As far as my current level with regard to this project, I am able to read and write Arabic but I cannot understand Arabic. Whenever I need help in understanding Arabic I resort to translations or the Imam. I hope to change this situation and gain a grasp of understanding Arabic.

I plan on beginning my journey of learning Arabic through starting with basics. Through the use of this resource, looking into conversational forms of communications and phraseology is a good beginning step. I then see myself moving onto more complex forms of communication and development of sentences. Throughout this Journey, developing my vocab is tantamount in expanding my reach in the language. Afterwards, memorizing verb forms and conjugations will enable me to understand various verbs in the language. Finally, mastering Arabic grammar and applying it to the Quran is will ensure my deep understanding of the language. Resources such asĀ  YouTube, online dictionary, Quran.com, Sunnah.com and other will help me attain this goal. This is just a rough overview and subject to revisions.
