I think that Treaty Education is a very important aspect that is taught in schools and during the video when Claire said, “If you are not teaching the Treaty Education in the curriculum then you are not doing your job.” This statement really impacted me because growing up in school a lot of my teachers left out a lot of information about Treaty Education and I feel like I did not learn enough. There were a lot of missing pieces of Indigenous history until I came to university and took the classes that educated me. I believe that the purpose of teaching Treaty Education is to really educate students on the history of Indigenous people and the history of Canada, and it is such an important part of the identity of Canada. When the students learn at a young age than others in the community like parents also learn because they hear their children talking about what they learned in class, which in turn lets them research and educate themselves. It also prepares the future generation of leaders to take a stand and do right by all individuals in Canada.

“We are all Treaty peoples.” This phrase is so important. It means that we all get a sense of the place we live and the history behind it. It also helps Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples form new relationships which pushes everyone in the direction of reconciliation.
