Soundcheck! – Guitar Learning Journey
Hey everyone! Welcome back to this week’s portion of my guitar learning journey!
This week I started with the basics of the guitar, including learning how to hold one properly. I’m learning on an acoustic guitar, and there are six strings, so six notes. The notes are E, A, D, G, B, and E. My brother taught me an acronym he learned to help remember the notes and their order: “Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie. I have been utilizing the acronym a lot this past week while trying to get the notes down. Another part of the guitar I’ve learned about are frets. Frets are the little bars on the guitar that divide the neck into sections to allow for different notes to be played.
This week I also learned how to tune a guitar! I was nervous for this part of the guitar learning process because I thought it was going to be way harder than it was. I used an app called GuitarTuna, mentioned by my brother, which was very easy to use. You can choose different stringed instruments to choose to tune, and the app listens and tells you when it’s correct. I was even able to help tune a friend’s guitar over the weekend using the app.
I got most of my help to start out from my brother and the SimplyGuitar app. I didn’t watch any videos on the notes, as my brother showed me the basics, but the videos I watched on SimplyGuitar recapped them. One exciting thing I learned this week from the app was my first chord—E minor! I included a video showing how it sounds! So far I am loving this learning journey and can’t wait to explore more chords!

Hey Heidi. Learning not only guitar, but any instrument overall, is a great skill to possess. The reason I feel this way is because I find that music can truly open ones emotions, thoughts, feelings, creative-thinking skills, and more. This is because in music, individuals have the opportunity to constantly innovate.
With correlation to the edusite, I appreciate the banner at the very top. The view was jaw-dropping. I also appreciate the fact that the edusite consists of headers and drop down menus for organization purposes. Thank you!
