Invitation and hospitality are two core concepts needed for connection within classrooms. Throughout my years of schooling, I have experienced many different opportunities to develop my own identity and share my values and interests with classmates, teachers, and community members.
In grade six cultural integration became an important part of our lives as our student population represented a multicultural community. In my school community the grade six class hosted a “bizarre” annually. This event allowed students to explore diets, lifestyle, and history of a country of their choice. Students from our school and community members were invited in to share our learning journey as each group presented.

Within my high school we hosted an event called “literacy blast.” This event brought together elementary students and high school students to celebrate the power of literacy within education. Throughout the day students developed relationships with all involved and had the opportunity to understand each other’s strengths and learning styles.
