About Me

Hello everyone, my name is Janelle but my friends often call me Jen. My pro-nouns are she/her, and I’m now in my third year of my Education degree. I was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan located on Treaty 4 land. As a treaty person I recognize that I would not have the privileges I do today without the creation of the treaties, and I am indebted for the lands we live on. My great grandparents came from England and Finland and settled here in Saskatchewan who benefitted off the intentions of Treaty 4, giving me the life I live today – and for that I am grateful.

I began considering a teaching career when I was in the tenth grade; however, it wasn’t until I was 23 that I applied to the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina. Before joining the faculty, I tried other career paths like physical and occupational therapy assisting, but quickly realized that teaching was the right path for me. My mom has always said if she could re-do one thing in her life, she would have become a teacher, so I’m proud to live out her dream.
