Pedagogy 

I Believe… 

  • I believe each student has a different truth for which their life has formed.
  • I believe education should be inclusive and unique to the student’s needs.
  • I believe each student has their own unique story with different things to offer the class.
  • I believe students should be treated with compassion and understanding.
  • I believe connection is made through trust.

In my classroom…

  • In my classroom students will have a voice in what content we explore.
  • In my classroom students will be able to communicate. 
  • In my classroom, we will function using student-centered, inquiry-learning.

 

Assessment 

I Believe…

  • I believe students should have the opportunity to show what they know in different ways.
  • I believe there should be an opportunity for growth. 
  • I believe students shouldn’t dread assessments. 
  • I believe that assessment is different from examination. 

In my classroom…

  • In my classroom assessment with benefit the student and teacher.
  • In my classroom assessment will be constructive.  
  • In my classroom students will understand the purpose behind assessment. 

 

Social Justice 

I Believe…

  • I believe students deserve a voice and opinions.
  • I believe students should have emotional support available.
  • I believe all students should feel comfortable and safe to express themselves.
  • I believe students should feel secure and seen in their culture.

In my classroom…

  • In my classroom, we will discuss current and relevant concerns for students. 
  • In my classroom, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community will be advocated and supported. 
  • In my classroom, Indigenous understanding will be embedded and understood. 

Life Long Learning

I Believe…

  • I believe we can learn from each other.
  • I believe all students deserve a chance to learn and grow with proper support.
  • I believe learning should be something that students can take forward in life.

In my classroom…

  • In my classroom, I will encourage understanding over memorization.
  • In my classroom I will teach skills students can take forward in life. 
  • In my classroom students will care about what they learn and understand.
