Twitter As A Learning Tool

I have had Twitter as well as an account made for many years now. However, I have never actually used it. I mainly would only go on it to see Power outage updates, weather, news, etc. I have never actually used it for educational purposes and have never actually posted or tweeted anything! So tweeting and posting is new to me, as well as actually learning all the perks and tricks that are used and known for twitter!

Being a part of the Twitterchat with #SaskEdChat was a whole new learning experience for me! it seemed very fast at first and I was not 100% sure how I wanted to go about responding to the chat, but as time went on I became more comfortable and understood how it worked! I feel after seeing, using, and understanding the educational side of Twitter it can be very helpful as well as resourceful.

I have used, and still currently use many other forms of social media including Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and Snapchat (some for personal use and some for educational use). For example, where I work as a preschool teacher, I run a Facebook page allowing the parents, as well as the public, to have insight into what we do inside and out of the classroom! This allows for parents to have more of an understanding and view of what their children are busy with at school and helps the teacher (myself) when we don’t always have time to have meaningful conversations with the parents each and every day due to crazy life! I also use Pinterest very often for ideas and inspiration for the classroom, art, science, and much more! There are so many pros to using technology and social media when it comes to education that the options are limitless!

As I proceed on my Twitter journey, I feel very confident that I can and will be able to eventually be able to use Twitter in the classroom. Whether it be as a teacher resource or for educational purposes for students, I feel as though if used correctly (and when I know how to use it correctly) it will be a great resource to use! I am excited to see where my Twitter journey will take me and what I will learn!
