Meet the Maksymich Family
For me family began right here. Just the four of us and always with our family dog. This is my dad, mom, older brother myself and our dog ‘Bandit’. I was born in Calgary, Alberta and my family moved out to the country onto an acreage when I was five. My dad owned his own business working as a bobcat operator and my mom worked at the town office. I loved growing up in the country and helping out with all of the different chores that came along with living on the acreage (most of the time!). When it was time to clean out the chicken Coop I admit I would usually disappear so that my brother had that job all to himself! The jobs I loved most were taking care of the animals – as long as chicken poop was not involved. Our family fun consisted of camping, trips down to the river, horseback riding, gardening, puppy training, quadding, BBQ’s and sledding in the winter. I always tell my parents that having the opportunity to live and grow up on an acreage was one of the best things that has ever happened to me – and it was. I learned and experienced so many different things that transpired into formative qualities, shaping me into the person I am today. Thank you is not a word big enough to express the gratitude that I have for my family. The love, the care, the lessons and the time we spent together – I cherish and reflect on it all often.

Meet the Mathies Family
This is my family today! Meet Ken, Barbie, Bo Peep, Jessie and Buzz. Together my husband and I have three beautiful children. We met as students attending Olds College, married in 2008 and had our first child five years later. Since, our lives have been full and busy taking care of our children but we wouldn’t have it any other way! I absolutely love being a mom and spending time with my kids. Our youngest child just started riding his bike with training wheels, so family bike rides has been one of our favourite activities! We love spending time together and embarking on new adventures. Our adventures usually consist of exploring outdoors, going for ice cream, camping, road trips, movie nights, gardening, splash parks, making crafts, catching bugs, playing ‘diggers’ in the sandbox and when it’s winter – a good tobogganing hill. Visiting both pairs of grandma & grandpa’s at their houses also tops the list for favourites. I think that a family dog will be the next up and coming adventure, though my husband has not surprised us with one yet. . .

An excerpt from my essay entitled Expressions of Myself written in English 100 while attending the University of Regina:
My three children, vastly different in all their personality traits have one thing in common that is, they are the center of which my world revolves and exists. They are my everything and comprise so much of what makes me “me”. They are three parts of myself that now exist in the world with different and unique traits and personalities. Knowing my children will help you know me because they are expressions of myself.
