I was super excited to start this class because it was not just a lecture, the class also contained a field placement. I got to learn different aspects of teaching and what to observe in a classroom or school. The field placement gave a lot of learning opportunities and came me a glimpse of my future career.
For my field placement I got placed in a grade 4/5 spilt class. Even though my weeks got cut short because, of the world pandemic. I learned a lot in my five weeks. I was able to build strong connections and relationships with each student I had the chance to work with. Teaching can have difficulties but, with a positive mind and being true to myself I could get through every tough situation I encountered. I also got to honor my values and beliefs that I would want in my future classroom. Being in the class I was able to apply what I was taught in my ECS class about invitation, hospitality, space, place and boundaries. The teacher I was with taught us the importance of different teaching techniques to fit different learning needs.
I can also see the opportunities that are going to be around the corner. I work at a daycare part time through out the school year and full time in the summer, it helps me gain experiences and I am always doing what I love: teaching. Also in my daycare we had a child with hearing disabilities and so, I use my free time to learn ASL but, one day I would love to be a certified teacher in ASL. I am so excited to see what else the future holds and also, I can not wait to have my own classroom.
