ChatGPT in schools
Technology is currently ingrained in most activities and is advancing daily across all fields of endeavour and elements of daily life. Everything in the world is technological, in my opinion, so ChatGPT in the educational setting needs to be accepted in classrooms and properly used by teachers in order to provide students with adequate information about ChatGPT because, in the words of Myles Munroe, “when the purpose is not known abuse is inevitable.”
Hi JR. I agree with you. There is a lot of fear out there because ChapGPT is unknown. Students tend not to share the fear, though. I don’t know if it is because they are still curious or don’t think about the risks…. My point is the students are going to use the technology, either with or without adults. We need to show them how to use the tech as tools, not toys (or ways to cheat)
Hi Laura,
I agree with you, if teachers can show students the use ChatGPT in school effectively it would help in educational settings.
Thank you JR for sharing this post.
I have a fear that, as AI is giving our students’ writing a milestone of knowledge, they may tend to own and claim these contexts as their own without citing some sources. Do you think we teachers or parents, may need to have an intervention with the use of AI to guide our students and our children’s writing tasks where they derived from? As much as we want our students to learn enormously from technology, we may be “on the guard” and not abuse the powerful presence of AI. We may want our students to write their own conceptualized ideas, but when they may need to adapt a theory, it is deemed necessary for them to always acknowledge the source of vital information they are presenting. Because I am new to AI, I have no idea if ChatGPT acknowledges sources of information, theories, or concepts that are written in the context of its wealthy writing, and I am still skeptical either how to teach my high school students the information I may obtain from CHhatGPT.
Hi Ramsel, thanks for your comment.
It is very important for parents and teachers to understand the use of AI because the kids are getting exposed to it. If parents and teachers are aware of the context it helps them to guide how the kids use the technology.
