Final Reflection

I am beyond grateful for the experience I was given during this field placement! My partner and I were greeted by our amazing teacher who was very open and willing to answer any questions we could possibly have. My partner and I were placed in a Grade 7/8 classroom, and I’m so glad that we did! Throughout the five placement days I had, I was able to build some strong relationships with the students in the classroom. I took the time to learn and remember their names, and whenever possible, I tried to get to know them and what goes on outside of the classroom as well. I also got to learn more about the transitions the Grade 8 students were being prepared for, high school! Our teacher gave us an insight on the worries she has for some of the students in the class making this big transition, and she also told us the ways she was working to prepare them.

The classroom teacher did push to try create a friendly and easy-going classroom environment which was amazing to see. She had some great connections with all of her students, and truly did care about them and their success. It was a good experience to see how she teaches her class, as it was much different than my middle-school teachers. My favourite parts of the field placement were the days I was able to help the students with the projects they were working on. Being able to interact with the students really helped me learn what it would be like to actually be a teacher. The students have so many great questions and need help in a diverse amount of ways, so it was great to be able to experience what that is like!

Overall, I am so excited to be able to take my experiences from this placement into upcoming placements throughout the years! I learnt a lot about how much effort really goes into being a teacher, and this knowledge will be something I will be able to expand on so much more over the years! It isn’t easy being a teacher, and I’m glad my teacher was able to be open with my partner and I about that. This experience has led me to be hopeful and has inspired me in so many new ways.
