Improving my video editing skills – Clipchamp!

Previous Learning Project Blog

As you have all seen in my last blog, I have created a video and edited it from my phone. All this time I would always use this app called “Videoshow” to edit my videos. It is fast, and easy to do! You just add videos from your gallery and edit it by:

  • Adding music, transitions, voice-over
  • Trimming videos
  • Compressing videos
  • Converting videos to audio

AND MORE!!!

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with this app. I would use it pretty much every time I need to edit a video and upload it.

However, I want to try something new! I want to try editing using my laptop.

Over the years of my existence, I have always been looking for a good and free video editing software for desktop. Of course, all the best ones are paid! so unfair!

ADDITIONALLY…

OpenShot Interface

A free video editing software, such as “OpenShot,” is not very “user-friendly.” The interface is terrible (at least for me) as it looks messy. A person who is trying this app for the first time will get confused with this app.

Why do I want to edit on desktop when I can already edit on my phone?

Great question. Editing on a bigger screen is an advantage because you can see better, and the videos can render better. Desktop apps are much more open to online templates as opposed to phone apps. Lastly, editing on a desktop is much more efficient than editing on a phone. Why? because you do not have to send videos back-to-back from laptop to phone and vice versa. I could probably list more things but let’s leave it at that.

Clipchamp is an app from Microsoft which is the upgraded version of the integrated video editor.

How is Clipchamp different from the integrated video editor?

The integrated video editor is simple and does not have many features that Clipchamp can offer. Clipchamp offers templates for those users who wishes to have more professional video. A key feature of Clipchamp is users can drag files onto the project they are currently doing! No need to download and upload to the software! The integrated video editor, on the other hand, uses files from the computer.

If the user is new to editing software, the integrated video editor is much better to navigate than Clipchamp! If you are experienced, might as well use the upgraded version!

Clipchamp Essentials plan

Both apps offer free music. However, Clipchamp has premium music, filters, and effects. If you are into video editing, Clipchamp premium is not that expensive!

I plan to use this app for my 3rd Learning Project Blog. I plan to make a modified pen for pen spinning and I want to show the process iof it to the viewers! I will use the features of Clipchamp, such as the templates and music to further enhance my video!

As for how this tool fit in the SAMR model, I think Clipchamp falls under “Enhancement.” Making videos about tutorials or lectures has always been a thing ever since video cameras and YouTube existed. Clipchamp’s job is to improve those videos and make them entertaining vs a boring and uncut video. Filming tutorial videos in general is an enhancement to physical lectures since you can always go back to those videos whenever you need to study, which is always helpful.

  1. This is great Jozelle and actually very relevant to my own Learning Project. I’m going to keep an eye on your progress and see if there’s anything I can take away for my own project.

You clearly put a lot of time into this over the past week and I may ask you some questions if I need some assistance with my own video editing…

  2. Thanks for sharing this app! I have never heard of this platform. But you make some good points about editing on a desk top, I find it much easier to do this as well but I seem to always end up just using my phone.
