This week for my learning project, I decided to make an appetizer for my mom’s 50th birthday party! She turns 50 on December 1, 2024, and the night before we are celebrating her 50th birthday with friends and family. She asked me to make some appetizers, so I thought this was the perfect time to find a good recipe. When I was searching for recipes and ideas, I wanted to try to find something that didn’t require to get hot and could be left out for people to easily grab. I remember when I was younger, my mom used to always make us pinwheels! I looked on Pinterest for different ideas for recipes and stumbled upon a website with 20 different ideas for pinwheel flavours. For those who don’t know, pinwheels are tortilla wraps with a filling of your choice thinly sliced. After I looked at this website, I decided I would make a ham and cheese flavour. I thought this was a basic flavour and not crazily seasoned, so most people will hopefully enjoy it. Next, I searched for ham and cheese pinwheels on Pinterest and stumbled across a website with a recipe.
Although I didn’t follow this recipe to an exact tea. I got a general idea of what was needed for this recipe and then I sort of customized it for myself.
Here is what I used:
- 8oz of cream cheese
- About 1 ½ cups of shredded marble cheese
- ½ stem of green onion
- 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
- 1 tea spoon of salt
- 400 g of black forrest ham
- 4 tortillas
Here are the steps I took:
1.Put cream cheese in a bowl.
2. Shred your cheese. Add to bowl with cream cheese.
3. Thinly slice green onion. Add to bowl. Add garlic powder and salt.
4. Use an electric mixer to blend. Set aside.
5. Take out the ham.
6. Thinly slice the ham.
7. Take a tortilla and spread cheese onto the tortilla. Make sure every portion of the tortilla is covered.
8. Add ham on top.
9. Fold sides inward slightly. Roll up the tortilla, making sure to keep it tightly wrapped up.
10. Slice the ends off (eat this!!). Slice the wrap into sizes of your choosing. Enjoy!
I enjoyed this recipe because it was simple to make and very tasty. The wraps were very easy for people to quickly eat as they were bite-sized. In addition, they were too flavourful or overpowering, so they were very refreshing to eat. The cream cheese filling adds a lightness to the wrap. I will see how they do tonight at my mom’s birthday party, but I am sure they will all be gone by the end of the night! I recommend you try making this because it is very tasty, refreshing, and makes for a great appetizer. Thank you for reading!
