I am proudly from Winnipeg, Manitoba which sits on Treaty 1 Territory, the home land of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline, Nehethowuk Nations, and of the Red River Metis Nation.
I have moved away from home to pursue my post-secondary education, and to be a part of the University of Regina Women’s Soccer team. I have left behind my family and friends which has been a challenge, but also a reward.
For as long as I can remember, soccer has been a big part of my life. It has become more than a sport to me. It has helped me establish lifelong friendships, providing a natural source of stress relief, and on most days, it remains my biggest passion.
Being an student athlete has also taught me many valuable skills such as how to be a leader, teamwork, cooperation, time management, and also personal sacrifice. I have also faced adversity, disappointment, loss and failure but these have only taught me resilience and how to have a growth mindset. This will assist me in my future endeavors in education.
In my spare time, I like to read. Reading provides an escape from my own, busy reality. One of my favorite books is called “Call Me by Your Name” written by Andre Aciman. Another hobby of mine is focusing on health and wellness. I enjoy going to the gym and keeping in physical and mental shape not just to assist me in athletics but for supporting holistic health. When home I love hanging out with friends and my dog, Stella.
Another thing about me is that I love to travel and along with travelling, the food that you experience! I am very fortunate that my family has given me many opportunities to see the world. This has taught me about many different cultures, differences in lived experiences such as the impact of political or socio economic circumstances and the significance of food in relation to region, community, and people. A few of the places I have been to include, the Azores, Belize, all over Mexico and many trips to the USA including Florida, and my all time favorite, New York City. I hope to continue with my travel experiences .
