Hello! My name is Kallie Lumbard. I am originally from Lloydminster, Sk but currently living in Regina, Sk. I am in my second year of Elementary Education at the University of Regina, and working towards my degree so that I can follow my dreams in becoming a teacher. I grew up with two physical education teachers as my parents. Family came first, school came second, and sports were third.
One major belief I grew up on was the importance of activity and moving your body. I started sports from the young age of two. The first activity my parents put me in was dance. I cried every time I had to go, not because I hated it but because I didn’t want my mom to leave me. I danced for ten years and did a wide variety of styles of dance including jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, hip hop, modern and a few others. At 4 years old I started swimming. Instead of my parents struggling to make me go to lessons, they had a hard time making me leave. From the first time I stepped foot into the pool, they recognized my love for swimming and knew that they had a fish on their hands. This did not stop them from putting me in other sports but quite the opposite. I did soccer, gymnastics, volleyball, tennis, basketball, running, golf, artistic swimming and speed swimming. One sport they never even tried putting me in was hockey. Ever since I was little my dad has made a backyard rink for my brothers to practice on. To this day I still try to skate on it but I get kicked off within a minute because I suck and fall so much. That is one sport I will probably never catch on to. After all the options of sports I participated in, without fail I kept going back to swimming. I finished all my levels by the time I turned 8 and my next decision was if I wanted to try artistic swimming or speed swimming. If you know me, this was not even a question up for debate. I chose Artistic Swimming. If you would’ve asked me back then what my dream/goal was, I probably would’ve said something stupid like travel. I was never really one of those kids that said they wanted to go to the olympics or worlds or nationals.
Family has always been the most important thing to me. I have two brothers and 1 sister and I do not know what I would do without them. I never believed my parents when they would say that one day we will all be best friends….I am proud to announce that the day has finally come. looking back on all of those little fights now, I realize that it has made our relationships that much stronger and is just part of growing up.
