I believe that it is important that classrooms are appealing to children. It doesn’t matter what age they are, they should learn in an environment that is appealing and that excites them to learn. Children should enjoy coming into my classroom.
Below are some aspects that I want my classroom to have and hold:
- FM System
- So I can save my voice and so every student can hear while giving instructions or teaching. to help students with difficulty hearing, processing issues, and students with ADHD
- Posters
- Educational posters, not too many to avoid distractions
- Our very own classroom library
- with educating and fun books to accommodate each students reading level
- An affirmation board where students can some up with positive thoughts and phrases about themselves, and their classmates
- “I am…”, “I believe…”, “I can…”
- Flexible seating
- wiggle seats, cushions, standing desks, rocking seats for hyperactive students (ADHD, Autism, etc.)
- Class rules or expectations poster
- Easy to remember classroom rules that everyone can follow and understand
- Visual Daily Schedule
- so students can see what they can expect to happen throughout the day
- Visual timer
- so students can stay on track and start understanding the concept of time
- Area dedicated to students
- noise canceling headsets, fidgets, hand in bin, hand out bin, etc.
- Teacher-students collaboration space
- U shaped table for group work or centres
- Sensory tools
- Fidgets, relaxing timers, etc. to help regulate a child’s concentration and bring them back to focus
- Cubbies or Lockers
- Every student deserves their own space
- A stereo
- Who doesn’t love a little brain break or calming music?!
- Alphabet poster with both uppercase and lowercase (for younger grades)
- Numbers poster up to 100 (for younger grades)
- Math formulas (Middle years)
