My Grade 6 Experience

Throughout my field experience I also got to experience a grade 6 classroom. If I am being totally honest I was terrified on my grade 6 days. My comfort zone is definitely younger children. My dream grade to teach is kindergarten or pre-k. However, after being in a grade 6 classroom I am definitely more open to the older grades. This classroom was actually so much fun to be in! I was able to see how teachers teach differently in a grade six classroom vs teaching the younger grades. These kids are super independent and are able to do more difficult things. You are able to have actual conversations with the kids and build really meaningful relationships. My field placement teacher Mrs. T had a very good relationship with all her students. Walking into the classroom everyone felt welcome and included. There was laughing and smiling and everyone was having fun while they were learning. I am grateful because without this experience I would still be scared of the “older kids”.
