The first 2 weeks of internship have gone by in a flash. I started my internship with the Teacher Work Week before the students had a chance to get back to school. It was nice to spend some time getting familiar with the school and staff. I also learned a lot about the division procedures and policies that will continue to come up throughout the next few months.

The students all arrived bright and early and excited to start the school year on September 3rd. The first day of school was a blur, trying to get out of the summertime fog and into the swing of a new routine. Most classes were spent learning about my new students and sharing about myself and what happened over the summer.

Wednesday was picture day, so everyone came to school dressed to the nines and ready to smile big for their photos.

My first lesson to the Grade 3 class included a lesson about the parts of the plant which required me to head out to the farm in search of plants showcasing each part! Next was a discussion about how to pick a good fit book. Similar to choosing the proper footwear, we need to make sure you are choosing something that  is appropriate for the Purpose and something we are Interested in. When choosing books we need to make sure that we can Comprehend the message, and Know what the words mean. There is also a 5 finger test to check in and see if the book is too challenging or just right for their own learning. Ask any Grade 3 student, you can’t just pick a book by its cover!

Until next time,

Miss Philip
