When it comes to arts in schools, they aren’t taken very seriously. If the school board or school itself is low on money they will usually cut some part of the art curriculum. That’s because art is still not seen as important enough to stay in schools when budgets are low. This isn’t fair because this is how some students connect with education and create a sense of belonging in the classroom. This week’s case study we learned about how important arts education is. For some people music is more than just sounds. It can connect them to their culture, it could also be a way of expressing who they are and a way of coping with personal problems they may have. Music can also be a way of making a subject that is less “fun” like math more engaging so that all students want to take part in it.
As a teacher I will use music in my classroom as much as I can. As well as let my students use music in the best and beneficial way that will help them be successful in their education. As a teacher my goal is to make all students feel welcome and that sense of belonging. Having music sometimes is a great way to express how we feel so having music is something that I will 100% use in my classroom. When students are more engaged and interested in what they’re learning there’s a better outcome. Also, when the students feel heard it’s a better learning environment for everybody. I think the students having a voice in the classroom is extremely important for their success in education.
