Everyone deserves to be treated with respect and equity. I believe it is super important for everyone to feel included and welcomed throughout society, no matter their gender, culture, etc. One thing we as teachers could do to make a more welcoming environment is to quit labeling gender, culture, jobs, and lifestyle. I think every person deserves to be seen as they truly are and not by the prejudices and stigmas people create.
Students will feel more at ease around us and in the classroom, and they will be more willing to display their true selves, the more we as instructors demonstrate that we are okay with and would support everyone in our classroom. It’s crucial to be that person for kids since sometimes these changes are difficult for them and other people in their lives might not agree with them. By doing this your class will feel more supported and welcome within your classroom and will overall have a better experience within the classroom.
I think it would also be helpful to teach kids different genders at a younger age so that they are more supportive of those genders and identities as they grow up.
