To be professional means to be a reliable, trustworthy, be able to represent yourself in a proper manner, and be able to treat others with respect. As teachers we are representing our schools, colleagues, students, and school Divisions; and you need to be sure that you are constantly representing the school in a respectful manner. A professional should constantly be demonstrating a good example and be a good role model for other people.
I believe that you are a teacher 24 hours a day because when you aren’t teaching students in a classroom, or individuals in the public, you are teaching yourself. We are constantly learning new things, and I think that as we keep learning new things, we will be able to share that knowledge with our students as well. And when you’re not in school you are correcting work, creating a lesson plan, developing a schedule for the week; so even when you are at home you are still doing your teaching duties.
Our duty as education students is to learn the proper way to teach in the classroom and develop an understanding of every child that we might meet along the way and how we can help them achieve their goals. And being a teacher, we need to learn the responsibility that goes along with it that means dressing in the proper clothes, come to class prepared and ready to teach, and keeping your personal life separate from your teaching life.
