This small group lesson focused on teaching the doubling rule as it applies to adding the suffixes -ed and -ing. After explaining the strategy, I utilized the “I do, we do, you do” method to scaffold the students’ learning and transition into the accompanying worksheet. Students then created a cootie catcher as a fun and interactive way of practicing the spelling strategy they had learned.
