Verse 8 – End!

I can’t believe I am already on the tenth week of playing the piano! I have never stuck with learning something like the piano for this long unless my parents forced me too!

This week I played from verse 8 to the end of the song. With this part, I learned the bridge of the song as well as order to from the middle to end of the song. The bridge is the part of the song that goes, la-da-da-da-da-da-da-la-da-la-da-da……… well you get it ;).

I used a video that I have used in the past to help me conquer this bridge.

I love this video because the woman speaks the notes as she is playing it so I can easily find the notes on the keyboard. I spent a whole afternoon on learning all the notes of the bridge.

After I learned the notes of the bridge, I decided to be ambitious and play the rest of the song. I followed the verses the lady was playing in the video and then wrote down the order of parts of the song on the Notability app on my iPad. I love Notability because it is an app that allows me to hand write my own notes and stores those notes on my google drive. Writing down the order of how the song is supposed to be played will help me with memorization and fluidity when it comes to filming my last learning project post next week. This way, I won’t have to refer to any of the videos and just look at my iPad notes on how the song is supposed to be played. I have memorized each section such as the chorus, verses, etc., but I can never remember how many times to play each of them or when to play them. Writing the order down will be most helpful next week!

After writing the order of each part of the song down, I decided to play verse 8 to the end of the song. I followed what I wrote in my notes on my iPad and completed it with littles mistakes. The mistakes I made were mostly on the bridge but that is just because I learned it this week so cut myself some slack. I sang parts of the song to help me stay on track and figure out which part to play next when I couldn’t see my notes.

“Piano Man” by Billy Joel is actually a much harder song than I anticipated it to be. I am happy with my progress so far and can’t wait to put everything I have learned together in one post next week!
