My First Homemade Lasagna

During reading week, I had some extra time on my hands and thought it was the perfect time to try a more time consuming activity. I knew I wanted to make a Lasagna, and I decided to see what YouTube had to offer for recipes. I cam across the video below from Natasha’s Kitchen and instantly enjoyed her bubbly personality and easy to follow instructions.

Not only does Natasha have a YouTube channel full of cooking videos, she also has a blog called: Natasha’s Kitchen. Due to Natasha’s multimodal approach to cooking content, I was able to get a great sense of the cooking process from her YouTube video, and accompany that with her printed recipe to match!

My Cooking Experience

I truly enjoyed the cooking process this week. I have found that collecting all my ingredients before I start cooking ensured that I do not forget any steps and reduces the chaos of cooking. Since I had it in my freezer, I substituted ground moose meat in for ground beef.

I am surprised by how much I enjoy the preparation work of cutting and dicing up ingredients. I absolutely love gardening, and I think that it brings me joy to use ingredients that I grew this past summer. In this recipe, I used a red onion from my garden.

Once I had finished cooking my pasta noodles and sauce, I layered it into my casserole dish and put it in the oven. I enjoyed having the cooking time to wash dishes and get some other chores done!

The Lasagna turned out very well! I was relieved that the pasta was not under or over cooked. My family enjoyed the Lasagna, and we were able to make two meals out of it which made the cooking time worth while! I would definitely make this again, when I have a chill Sunday afternoon!

That looks so good! Lasagna is my kryptonite, I love that you used a substitute meat and it worked out for you! I am so afraid of game meat as sometimes it can taste very gamey but IU am glad it worked out for you and you had your family be able to enjoy it as well.

I love that you were able to utilize produce from your garden in your lasagna this week. Lasagna is one of my kiddos favourites, and I’ll often cook up a big pan and freeze in it smaller batches for easy suppers. Your lasagna looks delicious!

That is amazing that you were able to add your own ingredients that you grew in your garden! Lasagna is one of those food items that I have always had an interest in making but never have. The recipe you used seems like a nice one to follow as it has a balance of written recipe and pictures and then a video to follow too. I will have to give this a try! Thanks for sharing your learning this week, the lasagna looks delicious!

As soon as I read your title I was curious because making lasagna has always sounded like such a complicated process and time consuming that I’ve never even looked into attempting this. Looks like you crushed it – plus homemade is always way better than store bought!
