Hello, my name is Kamden Lahti. I’m third year secondary education student at the University of Regina, majoring in mathematics and minoring in physics. I grew up in Regina where I graduated from Miller Comprehensive High School. I have a cat named Echo, whom I captured and enslaved just over 4 years ago during the great times of 2020. I enjoy watching hockey in my spare time, except of course on June 24… that day sucked. I am very passionate about math and teaching and I hope to inspire more students to see that anyone can do math. I can also recite over 100 digits of pi from memory.
My experiences with educational technology. Back in high school math we would use desmos for graphing functions and analyzing them. I have also learned even more tools desmos has to offer from my Emath 200 class last semester. It has a bunch of useful math activities to help students learn in a fun way. When I went into classrooms during my first year at the U of R I also had the chance to see a teacher using google classrooms for her class. It was hub where she could post assignments, readings, activities, etc. It is similar to UR courses, but better designed. Kahoot was also a fun activity everyone enjoyed during school, mostly because we could name themselves immature funny things, but it also helped us learn. I think overall technology can be a very helpful tool for education when used correctly.
I can’t say I’m someone who enjoys blogging, but I also the advantage to blogging over writing 7 page essays that I’m sure the TA doesn’t want to read. I am very much a math oriented person who would rather work with numbers than words, so I often struggle to effectively put my thoughts to page. However, I do like the less informal writing style blogging can offer. I also think blogging can offer a great sense of community as it allows for others to actively engage with posts and share their own thoughts. I think that blogging is good for the sake of this class even if I may not be the biggest fan of it and I will continue to try and see more of the positives throughout this course.
