So Now I Have a Trampoline in My Living Room

Rebounding Update

Big news… I officially have a trampoline in my living room! I am currently renting a trampoline from Session on a monthly basis, as well as a subscription to their online fitness platform. One day, my husband came home and I was like “Surprise! We have a trampoline in the living room… please don’t be mad”. Luckily, he wasn’t! I don’t think he can really say anything because he has a full size squat rack in the same living room.

The first few steps in my learning project involved actually acquiring the trampoline and setting it up in my living room. It does take up quite a bit of space, but I think it is worth it! I also had to get set up on my online learning platform. Session’s online platform is very easy to use and navigate. They have categories broken down to let you choose what type of class you want to do, the intensity, equipment needed, and the instructor. For the purposes of my project, I will be focusing on mainly doing the rebound regular (intermediate) and advanced classes. Check out the video below to see what it is like to navigate the online platform I am using.

To make this all work, I bring up the online platform website on my laptop and connect it to my TV using an HDMI cord.

This is what my current set up looks like

Working out at home using this online platform isn’t all sunshine and rainbows though. Some of the challenges I have experienced so far include:

-Buffering during my workout that made me have to stop and wait for it to load

-A bit harder to follow along because my TV screen is smaller than what I would experience in person

-Not having a big mirror at home like in the studio makes it harder to know what my body is doing and how it is moving through space

In terms of how my sessions went this week, I would say that I had pretty good success. I tried my first ever advanced class and it was really good! I just realized that the reason I haven’t been to an advanced class in person is due to a fear of failure and looking like I don’t know what I’m doing in front of other people. I think having the opportunity to learn this from home with nobody watching actually makes me feel more comfortable and willing to try new things, even though I am showing all of you virtually.

My most challenging class this week was the intermediate class I did with Rachel (the owner). Having to balance on one leg for multiple single-legged kick is the skill I am currently struggling with the most right now. My goal for this next week is to continue working on it.

I am also attending some sessions in person to supplement my learning. My goal is to do a minimum of two rebound sessions at home per week. Here is my schedule that I follow for rebounding:

Monday – Rest Day

Tuesday – Re[Form] class in person at the studio

Wednesday – Rebound advanced at home

Thursday – 30 min. Form class in person at the studio & 30 min. Rebound intermediate class at home

Friday – Form Class at the studio

Saturday – Rebound Advanced intro class at the studio

Sunday – Rebound intermediate & restore at the studio

I’m going to finish off this blog post with a video compilation of my routines this week! Wish me luck and let’s hope I don’t fall off and break a leg or something. To make this video, I used a new video editing app for Windows that I really like! I used iMovie in the past for school projects, and I think I already like this one a lot more. It is called “Clipchamp” if anybody is interested in using it. It has lots of cool visuals, texts, and audio. It also connects with YouTube to make posting easier.

  1. Oh wow that looks like so much fun! I totally relate to that fear of failure. It can be really hard to go out and do new things in person. Doing it at home can be so much more comforting. And even with posting it to us, we’re only virtual, and there’s no judgement from any of us. Keep up the great work!

  2. Okay, that looks fun, might have to try it. Do you have a music playlist that goes with your workout or just the youtube video you watch for the workout?
