New Platform, New Moves!

When I started this project, I didn’t know that we would have to choose a different learning platform. I was a bit unsure of where I could find another platform other than session. I did a YouTube search for “Rebounding Workouts” and I found a great new rebounding platform that is free of cost to use.

Her YouTube platform has a variety of rebounding workouts that target various muscle groups. This week, I selected a 35 minute “feel good” rebound workout. Her YouTube channel is fairly easy to navigate and has playlists to organize the workouts. In addition to rebounding workouts, she also has a variety of HIIT, strength training, pilates, barre, and mobility training. It appears that she posts new content weekly. See this video I took of how to navigate her platform.

Michelle Briehler vs. Session

Now I am going to break down what I liked/disliked about learning on this new platform

Benefits

  • Free!!! Anybody can access any of her videos on YouTube and there are no ads when you use an ad blocker. Session has a $25 per month platform fee.
  • Different perspective (front on) is a bit easier to follow than the side/back view in Session’s videos.

Drawbacks

  • Not as energetic as the Session instructors – I found this lady to be a bit dull in her personality and cueing. I wasn’t as motivated during this workout.
  • Music is stock/open source music because it is posted on YouTube for the public. Session has more popular music in their videos because it is a private platform and there are no copywrite issues.
  • There wasn’t a clear combination that we were working on, rather we did a few mini combinations putting a few moves together.

Overall, this class taught me a few different/new rebounding moves, as well as variations of moves that I already knew. If I had to choose which platform I like better, I would definitely rather use Session. The energetic music, enthusiastic instructors, and creative choreography just can’t be beat. This YouTube platform would be a decent alternative if you could not afford the monthly fee to use Session’s site though.

  1. Sometimes those resources that aren’t as great or favoured can teach a lot! Not only did you try a new source, you compared the two and found a more affordable option for those who may not be able or feel comfortable spending money on something they aren’t sure about. You also found some variations and learned new moves! Great work!

  2. I like that you were able to take away some learning from a resource that wasn’t your favourite. Are the variations you learned something that you can incorporate when you follow along with the Session videos? If so, I could see that being a fun personalized switch up to the prerecorded videos.

  3. Love that you gave a new platform a shot! It’s awesome that you found something free and accessible, even if it didn’t totally match Session’s vibe. Totally agree that the music and energy make a big difference in motivation. But it’s cool that you still picked up new moves and variations. A great option for when budgets are tight!
