Final Learning Project Post

I can’t believe that this is my last blog post of the semester! It flew by so fast. My learning project was probably my favourite part of this course. It was so much fun to be working on something that I am passionate about and continue to learn new skills for it. I am actually blown away by how much progress I made from September to now. I have so much more confidence than I did back then. Now, when I show up in studio, I proudly go in the front row because I feel like my skills are in the same realm as the others in the class.

Self-Assessment of Progress

In my introduction post, I created a self-assessment to assess my skills at the start of the learning project.

Pre-Learning Project Self-Assessment:

Rebound Lite – Endurance: 9       Skills: 10       Timing: 10        Synchronicity: 10

Rebound Intermediate – Endurance:  5          Skills: 7     Timing: 5        Synchronicity: 6

Rebound Advanced –  Endurance: 3        Skills: 3       Timing: 4       Synchronicity: 4

Post-Learning Project Self-Assessment:

Rebound Lite – Endurance: 10      Skills: 10       Timing: 10        Synchronicity: 10

Rebound Intermediate – Endurance:  9         Skills: 8.5     Timing: 8        Synchronicity: 8

Rebound Advanced –  Endurance: 7       Skills: 7       Timing: 6      Synchronicity: 6

While I may not still be where I want to be for the advanced skill level, I have realized during my project that this is going to take much longer than 4 months to achieve. I have made so much progress on the intermediate skill level though! I am incredibly proud of myself and how far I have come.

Let’s get in to a summary of what I learned each week!

Week 1 – Introduction to My Learning Project

  • Talked about why I want to get better at rebounding
  • Introduced Session Studio
  • Discussed the benefits of rebounding
  • Discussed my goals for the project
  • Showed a video of my current skill level

Week 2 – So Now I Have a Trampoline in my Living Room

  • Practiced jumping right into intermediate and advanced choreography
  • Established what classes I would attend every week
  • Learned how to make a video showing my progress

Week 3 – Rockin’ Around the Trampoline

Week 4 – Power & Endurance

  • Learnt different ways to increase endurance during exercise
  • Practiced repeating a combo on each side multiple times

  • Learned one of the more difficult routines I have learned to date
  • Used a new video editing platform from Adobe

5 Key Takeaways

1) Learning a new skill and sharing it with others takes a lot of courage and vulnerability. You have to be willing to have a growth mindset and be okay with making mistakes.

2) I tend to be a perfectionist and set my expectations for myself a bit too high. By the end of this learning project, I wanted to be confident doing routines at the advanced skill level. Some of the instructors at the studio are barely at the advanced level and they have been doing it for years. I need to be gentle with myself and give myself time to get better. This is not something I am going to be amazing at overnight.

3) Learning to use new technology was very humbling and had its challenges. By putting time, effort, and patience into learning something new, it is achievable.

4) I am a person who needs to get out of the house to be motivated to workout! While it was fun having the trampoline at my house, I struggled to get the motivation to do my workouts most days. I like the experience of leaving my house and going to a different location. Also, if I am signed up for a class and don’t attend, I get charged a cancellation fee, so that is a big motivator to go even if I don’t feel like it!

5) I am actually pretty decent at rebounding and should be more confident in myself! Having the support of my classmates throughout this journey helped show me that I can do this in front of other people and don’t have to be afraid or hide in the back of the room.

That’s it folks! I want to say a huge thank you to my fellow classmates for all of your positive comments and feedback throughout this journey. I loved reading them and they were great motivation!

Good bye & I wish everyone the best of luck in their teaching journey!
