Teaching Philosophy

I believe in…

  • Creating a safe & welcoming space for all learners regardless of their race, sexuality, ability, gender, and socioeconomic status.
  • Meeting the diverse needs of all students by offering differentiated instruction and assessment and focusing on strengths/abilities rather than deficits.
  • Supporting each aspect of wellness for each child in my class including their emotional, physical, mental, and social wellbeing.
  • Making learning a fun, hands-on, and experience based process that provides opportunities for students to explore and learn on their own terms.
  • Making mistakes. Making mistakes is a natural part of the learning process.
  • Incorporating other ways of learning from various cultures and perspectives.
  • Being a calm presence in the lives of my students. Learning can only happen when students are regulated emotionally.
