ECS 100 Stories From The Field

Final Reflection:

Looking back on my time, I spent in the cattails classroom at Prairie Sky School. I can say that it was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. I have been in other classrooms before, but getting to do my field experience at Prairie Sky was unlike an experience I had ever had before. The school focuses on nature, outdoor activities, and hands on learning. I have learned a lot about how as a future educator I can turn desk work into fun activities that can be just as impactful as the paperwork. Unfortunately, the experience got cut short but I will continue to take the new skills I have learned and apply them as I work to become an educator.

It excited me to start my field experience and see what this opportunity would bring me! Even though I did not get much time in the classroom with these students, I will always take the amazing memories of the cattails classroom with me. I had the best time at Prairie Sky School. The first day of my field experience was a fun, adventurous day! All the students in were so funny and kind. I remember leaving my first day of field experience with a huge smile on my face. From the first day on every time I step into the classroom I always saw how eagerly all the students wanted to learn. Whenever I came into the classroom, a student would always show me what they had learned that day and how proud they were of the work they did. Having a host teacher like the one I had at Prairie Sky was an awesome learning experience. I did learn a lot of material that will help a lot of students with different learning styles. It was always amazing to see the progress each day that I was there. Every week we had a question to focus on. These questions really help me see and realize how much each student has been progressing throughout the time I was there. The lecture they had taught us in class really help me connect with the students while they were learning. I easily applied certain discussion topics while being in the classroom. If I did not know the information I know now, I think the students in the room would have had a hard time sharing with me about them self. Even though I went to my last day without knowing it. I will always take the amazing memories that I have gathered at this school with me. This experience will only help me grow to become a better educator.

Overall, my field experience has taught me a lot about how in education I can make a difference. As a future educator, we need to understand that we’re teaching the future of society. At Prairie Sky school I learned that in society we want, we need to teach them it’s okay to mess up because they can always try again and get better at it until the students are successful.
