Digital Knitware
This week my knitting project came to a standstill as I just didn’t have the energy or the drive to work on my project. I’m finding it difficult to come home from a long day at work and want to knit. I can see this going over differently once I get better and don’t have to think so hard about every small move that I make. Instead of knitting this week, I took to the internet in search of a new online tool that would be interesting to share with my readers.
The new tool I found is a free program for knitters that allows them to create their own personalized knitting patterns or charts for free! I thought this was such a good idea and something I can see myself using further down the road in my knitting journey. The name of this website is called Chart Minder. After a quick glance at the site, I had already found something helpful as a new user. There is an option for a potential user to try out the site before signing up. I appreciated this as many times I have been on the other side where I sign up for a program and it is not at all what was advertised. This way, you can play around with the program a bit, and decide if it is something that would ultimately work for you. Here I have included a photo of what a potential pattern you may create on this site may look like.
One of the other options this site provides is the “Library” function. This allows the user to browse ready-made patterns that other users have created. With a simple search, you can find varying patterns of various subjects. I also like the variety that is provided, meaning that there is something for everyone. In the pattern library, there are patterns who would be friendly enough for a beginner like me to use, along with more complicated options more suited for a seasoned knitting veteran. There is also an option to access these ready-made patterns and customize them to your liking. Take the tulip pattern above for example. Maybe the pattern is too large for your project, so you can adjust the size. You can also change the colours as well. Another option on this site is the fact that you can choose to start from scratch with a pattern but also upload a photo of a design you like and it will convert it into a pattern for you! The opportunities are endless in this case.
The last thing I will mention about this online program is that there are no strings attached. The only thing that is needed in order to sign up is your name, email address and password for your account. After superficially exploring this resource, it would be something I’d recommend for all knitters to have a look at, or keep in their back pocket for when they may want to use it!
