Hello! My name is Madison Gilbert, and welcome to my ePortfolio! I am twenty three years old, and I am currently completing my third year at the University of Regina, in Arts Education. After my high school graduation in 2018, I was accepted into Randolph College for the Performing Arts’s two year performing arts program in Toronto, Ontario. I recently graduated from their program this past December online, due to COVID-19. Being sent home early due to the pandemic to finish out my education at Randolph was not what I had envisioned when I first moved to Toronto for school, but since being home I’ve realized that this time with my family I’ve been granted is a gift, and has also allowed me to start my journey as a teacher!
I grew up in the small rural town of Unity, Saskatchewan with my mom, dad, and little brother. This is where I would go to school, and learn to love dancing, singing, acting, and drawing. Our house never had a dull moment growing up. My mom, brother and I loved singing and dancing to musicals and pop songs, and my dad was really great at tolerating all of the noise and ruckus we made. So it was no surprise when I started taking dance lessons at the young age of four, and singing at five. Throughout the years I became a competitive dancer, singer, visual artist, and drama student. My mother was our high schools Visual Arts teacher and drama club director, which allowed me to participate in summer camps as a child at the University of Saskatchewan to prepare for my high school years.
I am currently teaching as a dance teacher in my hometown studio, and am completing my pre-internship at Henry Braun Elementary School in the grade one classroom. Being in these positions of authority with children has taught me a lot about the ideas and principles I would like to bring into my future classrooms, as well as has taught me a lot about how to be the best teacher I can be in the present. I aspire to be as patient, understanding, supportive, creative, and inspiring as the teachers that made me who I am today.
