Professional Learning

This semester I was fortunate enough to be enrolled in four very enlightening and inspiring classes. They were; Drama 202, ECS 101, Geology 102, and English 100. I have taken the opportunity to display some of my work from these classes onto this page, to highlight some of the great work we have been doing in class.

Drama 202 Aesthetic Poem Responses:

In this course we read a new poem each week, and were asked to reflect on what the poems meant to us, and how we related to them. At the end of the term we were asked to create aesthetic responses to any five poems presented to us throughout the year. I chose to do visual art for my responses, and chose to use ink as my art medium. Below are a few of my drawings I created, all with the poem title and artist incorporated onto the work.

In ECS 101 Education for Justice: Knowledge, Schooling, and Society, we took part in a number of lectures and assignments that activated deeper critical thinking into our journey to reconciliation as Canadian citizens with our Indigenous brothers and sisters, as well as what kind of teachers we would like to become as future educators. Below I have included my autobiographical essay, a forum post response, as well as both my journey to reconciliation aesthetic response and written essay.

My Autobiographical Reflective Essay:

Forum Post “Becoming A Teacher: Are We Teachers 24/7?

As a student in the Faculty of Education, and someone who grew up in a house hold with a teacher as a parent, I have deep set preconceived notions of what professionalism as a teacher should look like.  My mother, our local high schools Visual Arts teacher, was constantly reminding me that how I behaved in public, was a direct reflection of not only her abilities as a mother, but would affect how the public saw her as a teacher.  I always had to be on my best behaviour, was always polite and patient, and never posted anything I wouldn’t want a future employer to see.  I still carry these values with me today, especially entering into this profession.

I wouldn’t say we are teachers twenty four hours a day, but we are definitely teachers more hours of the day than not.  Once you decide to become a teacher and you enter into the college of Education, you are representing the STF and all of their core beliefs and values.  People will see you as the future of education, who their children will learn and study under, and who will help to shape them into their future selves.  This is not to be taken lightly, and I don’t.  This is our responsibility as students in the Faculty of Education going forward.”To act at all times in a way that maintains the honour and dignity of the individual teacher and the teaching profession.” Saskatchewan Teachers Federation, Teacher Professionalism, A Public Trust.

In English 100 most of our assignments were written essays, quizzes, and in class discussions of literary work. I have decided to display below a link to my poem theme analysis essay of Marie Annharte Bakers, “‘Put on my Mask for a Change’.
