Cooking or Ukulele or Air Dry Clay?

When I first started thinking about what I should do for the learning project I was in between learning how to cook or playing the ukulele. Cooking would have been a good option because we all need to eat anyway. My thought process was, I would make more complicated meals than I usually do and just blog the learning process. I ultimately decided against it because I figured the types of food I would need would be a little expensive compared to some other learning project options. As for the ukulele, I know a few basic chords and songs but have always wanted to learn more advanced ones. I also decided not to do this because I wanted to start almost from scratch. Then I thought of the one other thing I’ve never tried that I’ve always wanted to: air dry clay art.

Since I’ve never tried anything to do with clay, I had to start from scratch. For me that was buying all of the supplies. So I went out to Micheal’s and bought clay, paints and paint Clay art supplies brushes, clay sculpting tools, and a few other things I thought would add fun elements to the things I decide to make. My plan for my first creations are going to be a small catch all dish with the pearls around the edge of it. I would also like to try and make a sand dollar coaster. I got my inspiration for the coaster on TikTok. As I learn and navigate how to create things, I will use TikTok as one of my main sources of tutorials as there are lots of creators who give in depth tips. One account I like so far is the page “Sculpd.” There are lots of good and unique ideas. I will also be using Pinterest to find inspiration. I have a board full of ideas that I am excited to create. My ultimate goal for this project is to be able to make gifts for the people I love for Christmas. I am so excited to start creating!

  1. Hi, Makenna, this is a super unique and creative idea. As someone who is terrible at art in any form, I wish you good luck on your journey and can’t wait to see your creations.

  2. I love this idea, I took an art class last winter semester where we did all sorts of creations and sculptures, it was so fun! Good luck with your learning project, cant wait to see your creations 🙂
