As we all know technology is constantly changing and evolving at a super quick rate. I think a lot of people are scared or intimidated by this idea of technology taking over the world. Like everything, some things can be negative like ai plagiarism. However, there are so many positives that come from technology and the internet. An example would be the quick rate of information spread. In class, we talked about how crazy it would be to find out very important information way after it happened. This is now a thing of the past. Along with how fast it spreads, the amount of information on the internet is almost unfathomable. In an anthropological introduction to YouTube, Micheal Wesch explains that 9232 hours of YouTube videos are posted every day. And that is only YouTube, there are so many other places where things are posted every day. As for participation culture, I really like this idea! It goes against what a lot of people think people do with technology: consuming mindlessly. Creating things are so fun and good for your brain. Technology has really helped me become a more creative person and this class has inspired me to become even more involved!
Another pro, would be how it helps teachers with so many things. I am very new to using technology in innovative ways in an education setting, but there are so many things that excite me when thinking about this. Technology will make learning more fun and exciting for my students. I think of my experience in school and some of the math games we would play online and how fun it made learning. Also typing lessons were also made fun in my class. I plan on using these same programs with my students. Presentations will also be made more interesting. I want to learn how to use canva to create informational videos for my students. I also want to teach my students how to use it as well so their work can be done in an efficient and fun way. I feel like this will help with creativity, and also pave the way for them to gain knowledge about how technology works, considering it is all around us. I would love to hear some suggestions about technology in classrooms as this is all still super new to me!
Balancing technology with real world experiences I think is becoming more difficult every day. In my opinion, I also think it is super important. Not only because staring at a screen all day is unhealthy for multiple reasons, but because students also need to know how to balance technology in their lives in a way that is productive and healthy. Becoming addicted to a phone is not a good things, especially when someone is young. But this does not mean it’s all bad! As I mentioned above technology helps with creativity, among many other things! All of these things are why my classroom will have a healthy balance between tech and non tech activities.
I totally agree with your points! I also think technology can be bad and good! The key is trying to find a healthy balance between online and offline!
