Becoming A Teacher

“Teachers have a responsibility to act at all times in a manner that is worthy of this public trust and consistent with the teaching profession’s expectations.”

The public view’s a teacher through a contrasting lens than of a normal public citizen. Coming from a profession that was also held in a similar focus (firefighter), it comes with high regard but also limitations. I personally feel an educator comes with more moral and prinuicipled responsibilities than that of a firefighter. With the importance of inspiring tomorrow’s youth, we are given the trust to adhere to those professional ethics in our work lives along with our personal lives. That doesn’t mean we are a teacher 24/7 but it does mean we have a duty to provide a good example and encouragement to practice what we preach in our day to day living.

“Develop teaching practices that recognize and accommodate diversity within the classroom, the school, and the community”

“Diversity – the condition of having or being composed of differing elements”.

Diversity is the makeup of a teacher and it’s relatable now as a student, as it will be throughout our teaching careers. We are adaptable and have the ability to change as we grow, from how we learn from one another in a respectful manner, to the challenges of our future classrooms and diverse students we’ll encounter. We are part of a community as a team of educators, we can implement and start to practice the principles expected from a professional teacher now, as a current student in the Faculty of Education.
