Who I Am?
Hello everyone,
My name is Mark Kress. I was born and raised in Regina, SK, and currently reside in the Lakeview area with my wife, two children, and our Golden Retriever, who thinks he’s our third child. Our days consist of hauling my daughter to dance, my boy to hockey, and working around my wife’s schedule as we are both shift workers and things can get complicated.
I started my post-secondary education in the trades and became a level 3 apprentice carpenter, followed with a certification in Fire & Emergency Services at Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta, along with a Primary Care Paramedic certification at SIAST Wascana (now SaskPolytech).
My career path has now shifted due to some unforeseen circumstances due to an injury but I’m very grateful for my 12 years as a Firefighter here in Regina and the memories & relationships I formed. At the same time, I’m excited to get back into the books and work my way to an undergraduate degree in Secondary Education with a major in history and minor in biology. I feel my second calling of becoming an educator is fueled with more passion & focus than my first, as I was giving a second opportunity from a different stage in my life, and what better way to have an impact and inspire today’s youth than through a teacher.
Besides spending time with my kids, all things travel, woodworking, watching/playing golf and hockey (Go Bruins!), playing chess or a new hobby which has evolved with my injury is a “plantsman”. My house has turned into a jungle over a few short years.
I’m looking forward to starting this new journey!
