In our class, my first contribution involved actively engaging in Zoom meetings, where I made an effort to participate by having occasional comments. Although I had few comments to say with the group as a whole, I did engage with the break out rooms and participated highly in those! Additionally, I also interacted with my classmates by giving them positive feedback or expressing my views on their blog posts. When commenting on my peers’ posts, I made it a goal t0 leave thoughtful comments on at least 2 or 3 blog posts per classmate that I visited online. I successfully achieved this goal and am happy I could comment on…

Blog Post 9: The Power of AI
The Ai tool that I tried was this AI Art Generator! WIRED breaks down the process of AI image generators as individuals inputting a descriptive string of words, referred to as the prompt, which outlines the image(s) they want to generate. The generator uses this prompt to make an image best suited for the description given. (WIRED, Picture Limitless Creativity at Your Fingertips, Nov 22). The prompt I put in the generator was “cow on mars”, and seeing the final product was a fun experience for me since this was all new to me. Since I was introduced to this amazing tool during one of our class Zoom meetings, I…

Blog Post 8: Tracing the Trails of Kyle Tatton
In high school, I used to be quite active on social media, sharing posts once and awhile and allowing others to tag me in their photos. However, as time has passed, I’ve realized that at the end of the day, online presence does not make anyone more important than another. I have learned that at the end of the day, it seems like nobody really pays too much attention. So, I’ve leaned towards a more private life, especially online! If you were to search for me, online, you wouldn’t find much now apart from my profiles on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, as well as my name on sports team rosters.…

Blog Post 7: CTRL+ALT+TEACH
Teaching digital literacy in elementary schools shares various skills and concepts with students. The first thing educators should do is introduce young students to basic technology tools such as computers, tablets, and phones. These skills not only teaches students how to use these devices for school purposes, but also prepares them for the digital aspects of life at home. Digital citizenship is another important aspect of teaching students about digital literacy. This includes teaching responsible online behavior and ways for students to stay safe online. According to the NCTE’s Definition of Literacy in a Digital Age, it’s important for students to “understand the rights, responsibilities, and ethical implications” within the…

Blog Post 6: Cracking the Code
Hello Fellow coders! This week I joined the world of coding. I have very limited experience in this side of the internet, however, I can now say that I have completed my first Coding “course” on Code.org. This website was sooo easy to navigate and had many options for which game I wanted to code. I ended up picking a game called “Blocks Jumper” which is a game that involves a character jumping over gaps in the ground to get to the final destination. You could compare it to something like Geometry dash, without all the obstacles and way less complicated HAHA. This process, despite the occasional frustration of fixing errors,…

Think Before You Click
I originally planned to have this post answer the weekly prompt and call it a day, however, this week I was a part of an online scam… or what some may call fraud… so I thought I may as well share that LOL. First of all, I would like to say that both cyber safety and digital citizenship were frequently talked about to me at home and at school. My peers and I were constantly told that anything can happen on the internet and that the internet basically contained negative things. There were many posters, videos and films that I can remember being presented to me, which all felt like…

Blog Post 3: The New Culture of Participation In A Changing World
The new culture of participation in a changing world with social media platforms opens up endless opportunities for community. We can see community through the interactions, likes, and shares gained from a video, or the various ways that people can connect with one another through media. In Wesch’s video “An anthropological introduction to YouTube”, he describes these platforms as a “celebration of new forms of empowerment” and “global connections” that bring “unimaginable possibilities”. I find that his description is accurate because there is no other way to explain to someone what social media is- other than the many ways it can connect people to one another. No matter what website,…

Blog Post 2: How Does Technology Play A Role In My Life?
My daily routine during the week often consists of the same things every day: work, school, go back to work, workout, sleep and repeat. Anything in between there includes activities such as eating, chores or more homework and planning. This routine does allow time for some technology and my devices throughout the day, however, most of my day “screen time” consists of iMessages, Mail, and platforms used for my school work and work. I occasionally find myself scrolling on my social media apps, like Snapchat, Instagram or Facebook, however, I can admit that I am a wholehearted night time scroller. This intense scrolling happens from feeling like I need to…
