About Me

My name is Taylor McKinnon and I am an Elementary Education student at the University of Regina. I started my first year of post-secondary education at Selkirk College in General Studies. After taking a few years off of school and self-reflecting, I knew I was destined to become a teacher. I found extreme joy in babysitting, coaching and simply being with children. This experience is what motivated me to apply for the BEAD program and further sparked my interest in teaching as a profession.

Throughout my life, being involved with children has always brought a smile to my face. While coaching during high school I learned to be compassionate, patient and organized. Since I had coached at such a young level it was important that I lead by example and treated all players with respect and kindness so that they too, would do the same. I coached many diverse needs of children which allowed me to gain both experience and passion. I enjoyed building relationships with the children, encouraging their passion for sports, and this is something that I hope to continue in my future as a contributing member of a school staff. It was never just a job when I babysat. I always viewed it as a privilege that parents trusted me with the care of their children. Till this day I continue to keep in touch with those families.

Building relationships with children will be the most important cornerstone of my teaching career. I look forward to sharing my life experiences with the students in my care as well as having them share their passions. Continuing to be a life longer learner will be both exciting and rewarding.
